Yes, air conditioning is available on board the cruise. However, much of the year Air Conditioning is not necessary. Each room has multiple windows that typically help keep the room comfortably cool. Additionally, there are fans in each room. The A/C set-up is slightly different based on which boat you are on:
Poppee: Our newest boat is eqipped with both solar and highly efficient batteries, allowing for Air Conditioning to work 24/7.
Roman, Adelaide, Agatha and Meroe: As of September 2023, all of these boats run off solar power during the day. This means that the air conditioning can work all day long and not only when the generator is on. Air conditioning units are built in to the ceiling on these boats. Air conditioning does not run at night (no sun), but we run the generator before guests go to sleep to cool down the rooms. Fans work 24 hours a day.
Malouka, El Nil and Assouan: During the hotter months, portable A/C units are provided in each room. It should be noted that the air conditioning system runs off of our generator, which we try to minimize the use of (it can cause noise pollution and is not great to run all the time). The generator runs during meal preparation (a couple hours before each meal) and we also run for a few hours leading up to bed time to allow guests to run the A/C to cool down their rooms before bed. We turn the generator off at night so the noise does not disturb guests. All rooms have fans which work 24 hours per day.
